About WeaponsFM

WeaponsFM is a radical art, music and culture collective. Originally conceived as a personal blog & podcast series in 2015, we’re back and publishing new & archived content again in December 2024. Based in Brooklyn for the past 9 years, this project is brought to you by dj blackmask, special guest contributors, and our supporters.

This website is built to be part zine, part blog, and part archive. We explore, curate, showcase, and recommend our favorite releases, mixtapes, video, art, film and more.

Our goal is to drive music discovery. We want to make it easy for people to find new music they want to buy, and support the artists, labels, scenes, and events that they enjoy.

Blog

We post a few times a month, usually about music.

Buy Music Day

The last Friday of the month is Buy Music Day. Every month, check out our list showcasing 3 new releases to pick up on Bandcamp. Add them to your cart just in time for Bandcamp Friday. Soon to be available as an email newsletter.

Playlists

Monthly themed playlists featuring track selections, listening notes, streaming playlists, mixtapes, and more. Each month has its own theme and explores that concept & aesthetic through music, video, art, news, books, and other media.

Releases

Browse and audition hundreds of recommended albums, EPs, and other releases in our archive of works. Learn more about the artists and labels, see details about the release date and tracklist, and get links to buy on Bandcamp.

Mixtapes

A growing list of our favorite podcasts, mixtapes, or live sessions, usually with tracklists and links to a selection of our favorite tracks & where to buy them. Learn more about the recording DJ, or listen to more mixes from that podcast series on SoundCloud.

Artists

Learn more about the artists behind your favorite tracks. Get links to their RA or Discogs pages, maybe find their social media handles, and support them on Bandcamp. Find more works they’ve released, featured DJ mixes, or similar works by genre and style.

Labels

Browse listings of publishers, record labels, podcasts, and promoters. See all of their releases that we’ve featured, any artists that are associated with the label, and where to find their content or contact information online.

Events

Events are an experimental feature, which is currently only available to promoters. If you are a record label, booking agent, or event promoter and you would like to learn more about our Events section, please contact us.

Social Media

You can find us elsewhere online at these links:

Contribute

If you would like to submit a demo, feature a release, promote a podcast, write a blog post, or contribute to our database, please use the contact us form. We may not be able to respond to each request individually, but we’ll try our best. We plan on rolling out accounts for artists to edit their own profiles soon.

Support Us

You can support us with a donation, or by becoming a supporting member on Patreon. Supporting funds help defer server costs, pay guest contributors, and may be re-invested in artists and labels we love.

Thanks

Special thanks to this woefully incomplete and ever-expanding list of artists & labels who have had a heavy influence on my development of this project:

Club nights & venues:

  • Gay Head Mansion
  • Club hell
  • That after hours spot that’s not there anymore, you know the one.

Respect to my favorite websites from back when the internet was good.

I am also, probably obviously, a long time heavy user of:

  • discogs.com
  • bandcamp.com
  • ra.co
