Selections
Theory of Colours
by Dauwd on Technicolour Recordings
Dauwd has seen constant rotation in my dawn post-rave playlist since 2015, with Lydia in particular soothing & reviving me on countless Sunday mornings watching the sunrise on the ride home. Originally released in 2017, I rediscovered Theory of Colors in a podcast, and now tracks like “Theory of Colours” and “Leitmotiv” are getting dawn play time whenever I’m out camping.
Featured Tracks: The title track “Theory of Colours” is a wave of lush ambient with swirling pads & delicate percussion, “Leitmotiv” is atmospheric idm that shuffles & floats, and “Macadam Therapy” is subtle, moody deep techno.
Phenomena
by Basicnoise on Scale Limited
New from German dub mainstay Basicnoise, Phenomena was released in July 2024. Its’ a fantastic 11-track full length featuring warm minimal, deep techno, and dub. Another highly recommended release from Scale Limited.
Featured Tracks: “Quadrantids” is rolling, progressive, dub techno; slowly building momentum and soaring with bright synths. Next up is “The Starling Murmuration” with warm and nostalgic deep techno.
II
by Kiasmos on Erased Tapes
Icelandic mainstays of the deep techno scene, Kiasmos blew me away with their 2014 self-titled release, and they’re back once again with a new full-length on Erased Tapes.
Euphoric, emotive, atmospheric, melancholy and uplifting; producers Ólafur Arnalds & Janus Rasmussen expertly weave minimal percussion, layered synth pads, gentle piano, and other sonic textures to deliver an excellent vibe for your listening sessions.
Featured Tracks: The album opens with “Grown”, featuring warm and layered melodic techno vibes. “Sworn” is melancholy but hopeful, featuring a shuffle beat and evoking a lonely walk home on empty city streets at night.
